Bupivacaine Hydrochloride
Bupivacaine prevents depolarization by binding to the intracellular portion of sodium channels and inhibiting sodium ion influx into neurons. Local anaesthetics such as Bupivacaine block the generation and the conduction of nerve impulses, presumably by increasing the threshold for electrical excitation in the nerve, slowing the propagation of the nerve impulse, and reducing the rate of a rising action potential.
For surgical procedures, oral surgery procedures, diagnostic and therapeutic treatments, and obstetrical procedures, bupivacaine is used to produce local or regional anaesthetic or analgesia.
