How does Fluconazole for oral suspension USP 200 mg work?

Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal drug. Its primary mechanism of action is the inhibition of fungal cytochrome P-450-mediated demethylation of 14-α-lanosterol, a key step in fungal ergosterol biosynthesis. The accumulation of 14-α-methyl sterol correlates with the subsequent loss of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane and may be responsible for the antifungal activity of fluconazole. It has been shown to be more selective for fungal cytochrome P-450 enzymes than the 450 enzyme system.

Fluconazole for oral suspension USP 200 mgis indicated in adults for the treatment of: Cryptococcal meningitis Coccidioidomycosis Invasive candidiasis. • Mucosal candidiasis, including oropharyngeal candidiasis, esophageal candidiasis, candidauria and chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis. • Chronic oral atrophic candidiasis (denture scars in mouth) with poor dental hygiene or topical treatment. • Vaginal candidiasis, acute or recurrent. When topical therapy is not appropriate. • Candida balanitis when topical therapy is not appropriate.

If you are taking a liquid suspension of this medicine, shake the bottle well before each dose. Carefully measure the dose with a special measuring instrument/spoon.
