Pyrantel Pamoate

Pyrantel Pamoate API acts as a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking drug in helminths by increasing the production of acetylcholine, inhibiting cholinesterase, and activating ganglionic neurons. This results in a significant depolarization of the helminth muscular membrane, tension in the helminth muscles, paralysis, and release of their attachment to the intestinal walls of the host organism. This activity contrasts with piperazine, a hyperpolarizing neuromuscular blocker that relaxes the helminth muscles and then causes the helminth to detach from the intestinal wall. Using typical peristalsis, the parasites are excreted in the feces.
